9 things I've learned from the first 9 days of NaNoRenO

Hello friends, and here is how not to do NaNoRenO! Brought to you by this is exactly what I did for days one to nine of NaNoRenO!

I’ll start with the don’ts:

1) Do NOT waste your precious writing time setting up a website that should have already been set up a long time ago what’s wrong with you!

2) Don’t wait until now to start posting on Twitter. More Twitter time means less writing time. But less Twitter time also means less promotion… soo...

3) Don’t expect to write an entirely different genre of story that requires elaborate fantasy worldbuilding in the same time it would take you to write a normal story… without having ever really done fantasy worldbulding before… oopsie, that was totally my bad.

4) Don’t set yourself the goal of writing 20,000 words in five days, if you’re me. Because that won’t work if you’re me.

DO:

5) Just write, you can edit it later.

6) Break your three-act structure based story up into three chapters. That’s working great.

7) Let your writing and your art inform each other. They’re two sides of the same coin, and your art is a part of your storytelling as much as your writing is.

8) Experiment with stuff, like animation. You’ll sleep about three hours a night, but it’s fun and refreshing to learn new things. Plus the better my game looks, the more confident I feel working on it.

9) Join communities on Twitter and Discord. It’s nice to spend time with other people who’re doing the same thing, even if you’re only hanging out digitally.

Goodbye now, guys!

I’m off to write some more.
